Calabardina is one of those little seaside towns that you will want to return to again and again. Situated on the Mediterranean coast line north of Aguilas, it has a superb beach and is a very popular place for scuba diving as it has a Marine Reserve around Cabo Cope. For those interested in nature and wildlife the village borders the Cope National Park. There is just so much to see and do here or why not just relax, unwind and enjoy this beautiful unspoilt area.

For much of the year the Spanish holiday homes remain empty in Calabardina but during the months of July and August when the families arrive the village heart begins to throb. It takes on an entirely different vibrancy. The night air perfumed with the sweet scent of jasmine mingles with the sounds of the television, watched by families from their gardens flanked by bourganvilla although Kati’s Pasteleria, less than 100 mtrs from Villa Verde where you can buy fresh bread, croissants, cakes, ice-creams, coffee and savouries, offers a peaceful haven.
On Tuesdays and Thursdays fresh vegetables are brought in from the country and on most mornings the sound of the street vendor is heard selling fruits in season from his van as it tours the village streets. The churros van is open every morning. The hotel Paraiso opposite the house will always prepare a take away paella if you give the owner ‘Rocca’ a few hours notice, or you can sit in the square and enjoy tapas, pizza or even egg and chips! The local supermarket ‘Robles’ has most everyday items, but the bigger supermarkets Mercadona, Aldi and Lidl are in Aguilas. Scuba diving. Spain is considered as the Caribbean of Europe.
Calabardina is one of the most popular dive sites. It has great abundant sea life where the water temperature varies from 14º in the winter to over 24º in the summer. Visibility depending on the weather, varies from 5 to 25 metres. The dive school office has moved to the centre of the village, nearly opposite Villa Verde. Visitors can make their first dives or participate in specialised dives to sunken ships or into underwater caves at Cabo Cope, Isla del Fraile and La Catedral Calabardina borders The Cope National Park with its gentle walks and abundance of pretty yellow spring flowers, wild lavender and protected species. The scenery changes subtly in the hills when the warm winter rain brings out the carpet of green.

The Costa Calida offers a distinctly traditionally Spanish feel and is a far cry from some of the high rise and high density development found on some other Spanish coastlines. There are many miles of small inlets, coves and sandy beaches where the waters are unpolluted.
